Young lawyers collect personal care items for domestic violence victims

COLUMBIA, S.C. (October 20, 2009) -- The South Carolina Bar Young Lawyers Division Voices Against Violence Committee is collecting personal care items in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The program is designed to educate young lawyers about the epidemic of domestic violence, particularly among the teen population.

Attorney volunteers are collecting personal care items, such as paper towels, toilet tissue, Kleenex, powder detergent, cleaning products, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste. These items will be distributed to domestic violence shelters across the state. Items can be dropped off at the following locations:  

--The Housing Authority of the City of Charleston, 550 Meeting St., Charleston 29485.

--Richardson, Patrick, Westbrook & Brickman, LLC, 1037 Chuck Dawley Blvd., Bldg. A, Mt. Pleasant 29464.

--South Carolina Legal Services, 701 S. Main St., Greenville 29601

--Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands, 3700 Forest Dr., Ste. 350, Columbia 29204.

The Young Lawyers Division includes all members of the South Carolina Bar under age 36 and those with less than five years membership.

The South Carolina Bar, which has a membership of more than 13,000 lawyers, is dedicated to advancing justice, professionalism and understanding of the law.
