Section sponsors a seminar at the Bar convention, publishes a newsletter and maintains an electronic mailing list for members. Goals include developing an ongoing relationship with the Workers' Compensation Commission; exploring the feasibility of publishing Workers' Compensation hearing orders and appellate orders; and developing an ongoing relationship with the Workers' Compensation Educational Conference. Other projects include sponsoring a full day seminar on medical issues as relate to claims before the Commission; publishing summaries of significant case law and procedural changes; and reviewing a proposal to include Workers' Compensation commissioners in the annual Judicial Evaluation Survey.
Workers' Compensation Resolution
After assigning a subcommittee of claimant lawyers and defense lawyers to study pending legislation, the Second Injury Fund and the increasing cost of premiums, the Bar's Workers' Compensation Section Council recommended, and the House of Delegates adopted, a resolution with regard to the current state of the workers' compensation system.
The Workers’ Compensation Section is calling for nominations for: Secretary (July 1, 2014, to June 30, 2015) and two General Council Member seats (July 1, 2014, to June 30, 2017). Nominees must be a member of the S.C. Workers’ Compensation Section in good standing. Responsibilities include participation in Section conference calls/meetings and assistance with planning Section seminars and other projects.
