Construction Law Section Goals and Objectives
Produce and distribute an annual summary to members through the Section listserv and post on the Bar website. Encourage Section members to submit articles to be published in the SC Lawyer and/or other Bar publications.
Host a Construction Law Section seminar in September 2014.
Due to low participation at the 2014 Bar Convention, the Section is not planning to present a program at the 2015 Bar Convention. Rather, the Section’s focus will be upon the 2014 and 2015 Section CLEs.
Coordinate a joint conference with the North Carolina Construction Law Section in 2015.
Publish a Construction Law Section membership directory to be distributed in the summer of 2015.
Explore ways to increase participation within the Section (i.e. statewide socials).
Monitor and identify needs for legislative activity related to construction law issues.
Explore the Section’s interest in taking action with regard to unlicensed, out-of-state companies preparing and filing mechanic’s liens on behalf of others within South Carolina.
Explore the Section’s interest in seeking accreditation for Construction Law specialization.
Explore production of a comprehensive guide for the public to include but not limited to: hiring a licensed contractor, consumer tips, contracts, etc.
