S.C. Bar young lawyers donate personal care items for women in need

December 20, 2013

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Dec. 20, 2013) – The S.C. Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Voices Against Violence Committee donated more than 134 boxes filled with personal care items to various domestic violence shelters throughout the state for its annual Women in Need Necessities Drive.

Donations were collected statewide throughout the month of November. Items included paper products, canned goods and other food items, clothing, toys, cleaning supplies, toiletries and baby wipes.

Members of the YLD Voices Against Violence Committee donated items Saturday, Dec. 14, to shelters in Beaufort, Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, Orangeburg, Sumter and Spartanburg.

“Our goal this year was to reach out to shelters in more remote areas that often get overlooked,” said Andrea Sancho, co-chair of the YLD Voices Against Violence Committee. “We would not have been successful without, and are so grateful for, the help of all of our participants—special thanks to Turner Padget of Columbia for designating the event as its annual Holiday Drive and collecting more than 75 boxes of donations! YLD is honored to work with these shelters and hopes to continue providing support for those affected by domestic violence.”

YLD thanks all of the participating volunteers, law firms and drop-off sites for their generosity and help in making this year’s drive a success.
