S.C. Bar sponsoring Legal Lessons: A Series for the Public in three locations this fall; registration ends soon!

COLUMBIA, S.C. (September 10, 2013) — The S.C. Bar Pro Bono Program is sponsoring Legal Lessons: A Series for the Public in Dillon, Rock Hill and Columbia. The seven-week program is designed to give the public an overview of the South Carolina legal system and insight into common legal problems people face.

Dillon classes are currently being held on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at Northeastern Technical College (Dillon Campus) located at 2204 Hwy. 301. The course is held via distance learning at the college’s Cheraw, Pageland and Bennettsville campuses. Registration has closed for this course.

· September 3—overview of state courts and alternative dispute resolution
· September 10—juvenile justice and overview of child protection hearings
· September 17—family law, real estate and landlord-tenant law
· September 24—wills, estates and probate, health care and elder law
· October 1—S.C. workers’ compensation and employment law
· October 8—bankruptcy law, consumer law and debt collection
· October 15—criminal law and torts

Rock Hill classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at York Technical College (Rock Hill Campus) located at 452 S. Anderson Rd. Registration ends Sept. 10; to register, call (803) 325-2888 or visit www.yorktech.com/CE.

· September 19—juvenile justice and overview of child protection hearings
· September 26—family law, real estate and landlord-tenant law
· October 3—wills, estates and probate, health care and elder law

· October 17—bankruptcy law, consumer law and debt collection
· October 24—criminal law and torts

Columbia classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at Midlands Technical College (Northeast Campus) located at 151 Powell Rd. Registration ends Oct. 2; to register, call (803) 732-0432 or visit the Midlands Tech website.

· October 3—overview of state courts and alternative dispute resolution
· October 10—juvenile justice and overview of child protection hearings
· October 17—family law, real estate and landlord-tenant law
· October 24—wills, estates and probate, health care and elder law
· October 31—S.C. workers’ compensation and employment law
· November 7—bankruptcy law, consumer law and debt collection
· November 14—criminal law and torts
