Position Summary
Provide timely, competent and professional legal assistance and support to Companion Property and Casualty Insurance Company senior executives.
Coordinate with the law department to manage litigation and outside counsel.
While general functions are similar to Legal Counselor I, the Legal Counselor II is expected to demonstrate increased expertise and ability to handle more significant legal issues affecting the company.
Required Education
Juris Doctor (JD)
SC bar certified or the ability to get a Limited Certificate of Admission to Practice Law in South Carolina within three months of hire.
Required Work Experience
Seven years of experience in property and casualty insurance industry.
Experience in drafting reinsurance agreements, agency agreements, supervising litigation, drafting fronting agreements, contract review and negotiations.
Required Skills and Abilities
Must understand aspects of property and casualty insurance business.
Strong client support orientation.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to all levels throughout the organization.
Excellent analytical or critical-thinking and problem solving capabilities.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Ability to persuade, negotiate or influence.
Ability to exercise confidentiality and discretion.
Ability to manage projects.
Excellent presentation skills with a strong attention to detail.
