Please join us for the upcoming South Carolina Women Lawyers Conference, Vision for Success—Women Leaders from the Courtroom to the Boardroom, to be held in Greenville, South Carolina on October 10th and 11th, 2013.
We have an outstanding agenda including remarks from Chief Justice Jean Hoefer Toal and Greenville’s Mayor Knox H. White. Sean Carter, Humorist at Law, will join us from Arizona to give a funny and exciting two hours of ethics and Greenville County Probate Judge Debora Faulkner will provide an hour on mental health issues titled, “Why do the SC Bar and SLED need to know about my nervous breakdown?” We will hear from former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Liz Patterson, on her experience as the first female South Carolinian elected to Congress and Catherine B. Templeton, Director of S.C. DHEC, on her perspectives on effecting change from private practice to state government. We will also have a panel of several prominent local leaders titled, “Diversity in Leadership— Boards, Agencies and the Order of the Palmetto.“
Finally, S.C. Bar President and SCWLA Past President, Alice F. Paylor, will be moderating a panel of female Federal judges as they weigh in on “Leaning In,” the trending philosophy referenced in Sheryl Sandberg’s book, Lean In.
The conference begins at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday and the Bissell Reception will take place that evening at Womble Carlyle, in their lovely entertaining space along the Reedy Riverwalk. All conference registrants, speakers, exhibitors and SCWLA members are invited and encouraged to attend this reception which honors the achievements and contributions of the 2013 award recipient.
The conference will reconvene on Friday morning with a seated Southern breakfast and morning session, followed by Dutch dining around Greenville at a few of our fabulous local restaurants.
